A personal look at the principles of modesty.
We all have different beliefs and perspectives on what modesty is. For some, it’s the only a way to dress – skirts below the knee and covered shoulders or the entire body covered including the hair for this reason I wanted to dig deeper into what modesty means to us.
Modesty can be defined by 4 compounds: Humility, Steadiness, Good Behavior and Dress.
Humility is an important part of modesty, allowing us to accept ourselves and recognise the value of everyone around us. It's about being confident in our own abilities while not letting pride get the better of us.
Steadiness is an essential part of modesty that helps us remain consistent and true to ourselves, no matter the external pressures or challenges. It gives us the courage to stand up for what we believe in, take risks and make mistakes without fear of judgement from others.
Good behaviour is a key part of modesty that goes beyond politeness and rules, it's about treating others with respect, defending our beliefs and taking responsibility for our actions.
When it comes to dress code, I believe that there isn't one single definition of modesty but rather a balance between comfort and respect. Modesty can be expressed in different ways depending on the individual's personal style and preferences. However, to us, modest clothing should always be about protecting our bodies from sexualisation and objectification which is definitely a form of empowerment and that is what modest fashion is striving for.
Ultimately, the most important aspect of modesty is staying true to oneself and maintaining personal values and beliefs. Whether someone chooses to embrace modesty as a lifestyle or not, we encourage every women (and men) to explore what is important to them and create their own standards for how they want to present themselves to the world.
